Learning about cloth and thread 18 (Kensen Congress)

◆Learning about cloth and thread 18 (Kensen Congress)
The other day, we reported on the results of the New Congress survey. It has a clear compatibility with threads, and I found that it goes well with threads that are smooth and have a strong twist . The fabric we would like to introduce today is Kensen's Congress, an affordable domestic cotton fabric. Some of you may have felt sad that Color Congress has been discontinued over the past few years. I think many people use it as a standard cotton kogin cloth, but we have investigated it again, so please enjoy the results.
*Alphabets in the fabric name and numbers in the thread name are changed for convenience.

◆Kensen Congress basic information
⚪︎Material Cotton
⚪︎Number of stitches per 1㎠ (vertical: horizontal) 7 stitches: 7 stitches
⚪︎Purchasing store Online shop, etc.
⚪︎Purchase period: Around 2018 to 2022 (described considering possible differences between lots)

⚪︎For product information such as available colors and prices, please contact the manufacturer or store.

(It's a cloth like this. It doesn't let much light through.)

◆Impressions of Kensen Congress (according to Satonobo research)
⚪︎The weaving thread is difficult to move▶️If the thread has a strong twist, it may cause friction when pulling it out.
⚪︎The weaving thread is thick and the grain is small ▶️It may be difficult to count the holes when pricking.

Below is a photo taken with a macro lens. Perhaps the short hairs on the smooth surface help the thread slide, but the air-filled Matalbon and Olympas kogin threads were smooth when pulled out . Also, like a cat , those sweet threads tighten in tight places and spread out when released, and just watching that was a fun kogin time. (As an aside, it seems that the secret behind cats' ability to pass through narrow spaces is in their collarbones.)

I want to try Kensen Congress again! Recommended yarn from Satonobo
This is my impression of using the same kogin needle with needle movement. Please understand that my skill level will affect the appearance and impressions.

⚪︎2. Olympus Kogin thread

Stitching comfort : Thread passes smoothly
Appearance : Even the eye area looks beautiful without being buried.
Impressions : I thought the materials were compatible.

⚪︎3. Daruma Kogin thread

Stitching comfort : Thread passes smoothly
Appearance : plump and beautiful
Thoughts : The delicate thread gives the impression that it tends to be pressed against the fabric, but I recommend it this time.

⚪︎5. Tsugaru Kogin thread from Tsugaru Kobosha
Stab feeling : easy to handle
Appearance : Cute and casual impression
Impressions : The impression of embroidery is similar to Daruma's kogin thread.

⚪︎7. Echizenya Matalbon

Stitching comfort : Thread passes smoothly
Appearance : The volume of the yarn is its strength.
Thoughts : This is a combination you should try once.

⚪︎8. Handwork fan kogin thread
Stitching comfort : Thread passes smoothly

Appearance : Beautiful threads
Impressions : You can enjoy it without stress.

⚪︎9. koginbank kogin thread
Stitching comfort : You can feel the vibration as the thread slides, making it comfortable.
Appearance : Same texture as koginbank's thread
Thoughts : This is a combination you should try once.

⚪︎Other thoughts
I have enjoyed this fabric many times, but this is the first time I have realized that it goes well with sweet kogin thread and embroidery thread . For some reason, I thought that the stitches would be easily buried, but since the grain is small, it doesn't crush the thread, and I feel that it is suitable for creating works that take advantage of the fluffy look of the thread.
However, the thread with a strong twist felt tight when pulling it. I think it's a good idea to set a relaxed time, assuming that your fingers may get tired if you prick a lot. I wonder if the compatibility of the materials affects the ease of stitching, rather than the type of cloth or thread. I felt that again. Because the cloth is thick, it seems best to move the needle little by little.

◆About the compatibility of cloth and thread
As I touched on in Understanding Cloth and Thread 3 , sensibilities vary from person to person, and of course, preferences also vary from person to person. Regarding compatibility, I am writing this with the intention of conveying that the stitching comfort varies depending on the combination of cloth and thread. One of the reasons for conducting this survey is that I feel that it is a waste to distance yourself from a cloth or thread based on your first impression. The purpose of the survey is to learn about the positives, not the negatives.

◆Regarding the survey content
This information is for those who enjoy Koginzashi on their own, and was researched by Satonobo using materials he kept at home. Please note that depending on the storage environment, there may be a discrepancy in the count or weight of the fabric you have. Also, unauthorized use of photos is prohibited. I hope you have a fun Kogin time.
